Earlier this year, our Research Careers and Commercial Partnerships' Entrepreneurial Programme teams organised together with CRUK Chief Clinician Charles Swanton, the 'Routes to Translation' meeting for all CRUK funded early to mid-career fellows, which provided them with an opportunity to hear why we believe translation is important, learn about the different approaches of translation and working with industry, and highlight how CRUK can support them to start their own translational journey.
Importantly, we heard from our fellow community that there is a need for us as a funder to recognise and incentivise researchers to engage with industry and adopt a translational/entrepreneurial mindset. We've listened to our researchers and we are pleased to announce today that our Competency Framework for Fellowships has been updated to reflect the skills & experience relevant to translation. This will ensure translational efforts are being recognised and valued on par with other scientific outputs, such as publications, which forms part of our implementation of DORA principles.
