Our Network

Cancer Research UK has exclusive rights to more than £350m of world-class cancer research annually. In addition, the Commercial Partnerships team also has rights to IP beyond Cancer Research UK funded research, making us the gateway to much of the exciting science happening in the UK today.

We offer unique opportunities to commercial partners looking for early involvement in new discoveries and are able to facilitate mutually beneficial collaborations with scientists and institutions from across CRUK's research community.

We are completely focused on cancer. This means we’re more experienced, more knowledgeable and better connected in the field of cancer research and development.

  • CRUK INSTITUTES

A substantial proportion of Cancer Research UK's scientific funding is provided to five core research institutes. These laboratories are funded either directly through core funding or by substantial renewable programme grants with a significant core element.

We have institute-based Business Development Managers working onsite at each of these core institutes to maintain strong relationships and direct lines of communication with cancer research scientists.

    Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute

Cancer Research UK and MRC Oxford Institute for Radiation Oncology

    Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute

    The Francis Crick Institute

  • CRUK CENTRES

At the heart of our strategy to beat cancer sooner is a network of 13 translational research centres delivering world-leading research that accelerates the transition of lab-based discovery to the clinic for the benefit of people affected by cancer.

Our Centres drive local collaborations between universities, NHS hospitals, and other research organisations. Together, they operate as a network which plays a key role in delivering our strategic objectives in translational research, with different Centres contributing their expertise in different tumour sites and research themes.

We award Centre status to locations performing the highest quality cancer research, and we provide over £200 million of infrastructure investment funding for technical staff, equipment, training and running costs, developing the breadth and depth of research at each of these Centres.

  • UNIVERSITIES

Cancer Research UK currently supports over 4000 scientists, doctors and nurses throughout the UK by awarding grants to researchers based in universities and hospitals. Our Business Development Managers work closely with these leading research scientists, and their technology transfer offices, in order to identify and manage the most promising research projects.

We’ve also established strong relationships with most major institutions and universities in the wider oncology community.
